Magic tricks
Realism and Representational Art is said to be more ‘representative’ of life- Reality. I would say, in process, this is a contradictory notion. In Representational Art there is a method, a formula, a model to follow, a known subject or scene. There is a clear right and wrong, a well laid path to follow, and masters or leaders to faithfully emulate.
This seems to me a great illusion. Magic tricks without the magic. Life/Reality, rarely clear cut and direct, IS Abstract Art.
You are presented the tools, materials, pointed in a vague direction, left to your own devices, and promised something great will meet you at the end. Despite doubts and fears, you push on leaving your marks, adding color, following only instinct, keeping faith that your work will not be in vain.
While I’m fairly new to art as -action-, I learned quickly which process I preferred. Though abstract art may seem detached from reality and difficult to comprehend, I don’t believe you can create a more representational work of reality.
And, once you try it for yourself, you unlock the Real Magic.
(A special thanks to these true artists who are well in touch with their magic!)
